The EMBRACE Characters
The EMBRACE project introduces a cast of engaging and relatable characters to help children explore their emotions and mental well-being in a supportive and imaginative way. These characters are designed not just as companions but as tools for self-discovery, empowering children to take an active role in their own mental health journey.
Characters Targeting Children & Teenagers in Primary School
At the heart of this approach is Wise (aka The Wise Owl), a guiding figure who symbolizes wisdom and emotional support. As a mentor, Owl helps children navigate their feelings, offering reassurance and encouragement as they learn to understand themselves.
Supporting this journey are the five hero characters, each representing different aspects of emotional experiences. These heroes are divided into light characters (Nutty, Sparky, and Flutter) who bring playfulness, curiosity, and energy, and shadow characters (Dusty and Bytu) who embody the challenges and inner struggles children may face.
Nutty – The Trickster (Child Alterego)
Tricksters are mischievous and playful, often challenging social norms. Nutty the Squirrel, with its playful grin and acorn, likely embodies this archetype, bringing a sense of chaos and humor to the story.
Target Group: All children, especially children who love to have fun, think critically, and enjoy making others laugh
Sparky – The Innocent/Child (Child Alterego)
This archetype represents purity, naivety, and a connection to the natural world. Sparky the Puppy, with its playful curiosity and exploration, perfectly embodies this archetype

This archetype represents nurturing, support, and protection. Flutter the Dragon, with its gentle smile and likely role in assisting other characters, embodies this archetype.

Dusty – The Mystic / Visionary Shadow Character
Dusty, the small mouse, represents curiosity, introspection, and quiet resilience. Often deep in thought, Dusty sometimes feels different from others but is always searching for understanding and connection. Through creativity and perseverance, Dusty discovers that their unique perspective is a strength, encouraging children to embrace their individuality and inner world.

Bytu – The Rebel/Explorer Shadow Character
Bytu, the wolf-like character, embodies independence, energy, and a strong will. Always eager to explore new possibilities, Bytu sometimes acts on instinct but learns to balance passion with patience. This character helps children understand the power of their emotions and how to channel them into self-discovery, determination, and meaningful action.

Characters Targeting Children & Teenagers in Middle School (10-14 years)
Maya and Leo are the central figures of the middle school character set, two inspiring young characters who reflect the everyday challenges and emotional growth that define early adolescence. Whether dealing with shifting friendships, school pressures, or finding their place in the world, Maya and Leo encourage courage, communication, and self-expression. Through their stories, middle schoolers learn not only to face personal setbacks but to advocate for themselves and support others around them.
Supporting them are Maya+ and Leo+, inner guide characters who symbolize emotional insight, balance, and thoughtful reflection. These figures act as calming presences, helping younger adolescents understand their feelings, manage stress, and make kind, confident choices. They help young people gain the confidence to advocate for themselves and contribute to more respectful, inclusive environments.
Instead of assigning roles based on gender, EMBRACE invites children to connect with the characters who reflect their own challenges and strengths. Maya – Heroine

Alongside them are Ana+ and Alex+, inner guide characters who represent intuition, emotional insight, and self-reflection. These guides help teenagers connect with their inner voice, navigate complex emotions, and build confidence in their own decisions.
Rather than assigning characters based on gender, EMBRACE encourages all teenagers to engage with the characters that resonate with them most. By combining hero figures with guiding voices, EMBRACE empowers teenagers in high school to connect with their inner strength, advocate for their needs, speak up for others, and take meaningful action for emotional well-being.
